12/28 Odds and Ends

James Demery and Obi Romeo, two of Saint Joseph's four 2014 commitments, were in action Friday evening. As were a handful of juniors that the Hawks are actively recruiting. Track them all inside.

Northside Christian (NC) took down Florida's Arlington Country Day 100-90 last night in the Wild Wing Café Hoops Classic, reported Langston Wertz of the Charlotte Observer. According to Wertz, senior shooting guard James Demery had 29 points and 8 rebounds in the win.

Demery, a 6'5 senior, is headed to St. Joe's next year as the prized recruit in what is a very strong recruiting class. Demery and Northside Christian take on Lincoln (NY) tonight. Lincoln is led by one of the top guards nationally in the 2014 class, Seton Hall-signee Isaiah Whitehead. That game is at 7:30 Saturday night.

Obi Romeo, a 6'10 senior at Greenbrier East (WV), was Saint Joseph's other signee in action last night. According to Cam Huffman of The Register Herald, Romeo had 16 points, 22 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots in an 84-57 win over Parkersburg Catholic (WV). Romeo is extremely raw offensively, but a high-level rebounder and shot-blocker due to his athleticism and length.

Shavar Newkirk's Cardinal Hayes (NY) squad is next in action on Monday at home against Fordham Prep. Newkirk had 14 points, 7 assists, and 7 steals last week in a win over nationally-ranked Christ the King.

Locally, 2015 shooting guard Chris Clover had 21 points for St. Joe's Prep as they came from behind to beat Methacton 50-43. Clover is a player that has emerged as a top target for most, if not every, school in the city.

One of the better games locally yesterday was Constitution (PA) against Milford Mill (MD). Milford Mill is where St. Joe's sophomore Isaiah Miles spent his senior year of high school. Constitution won the game 67-66, and their junior combo forward Ahmad Gilbert had 23 points. Temple, Seton Hall, St. Joe's, and many more are involved with the 6'7 Gilbert.

A number of Hawk targets are in action tonight, and I will recap that here tomorrow prior to the St. Joe's-Boston U game.
