April live period primer

Friday evening marks the beginning of the April Live Period, which then runs through Sunday. From the EYBL in California to the Under Armour Pitt Jam fest in Western Pennsylvania to the Elevate Hoops event in Biloxi, there are events coast-to-coast, north-to-south this weekend. Find out where many of St. Joe's top recruiting targets will be playing inside.

The biggest-name event this weekend is the EYBL Event #1 in Sacramento. St. Joe's head coach Phil Martelli is expected to be in California for the Nike-sponsored event. A handful of Hawk targets are participating in the EYBL this year.

Philadelphia-based Team Final has four juniors with either Hawk offers or interest. Point guard Lamarr Kimble was offered by SJU head coach Phil Martelli earlier this week. Combo guard Shawn Alston and shooting guard Trey Lowe both have offers from the Hawks, and wing forward Ahmad Gilbert has strong Hawk interest, getting a visit from Martelli this week.

Another EYBL team that the head Hawk will likely be keeping tabs on is Baltimore Elite. 6'8 forward Evan Fisher, who reportedly holds a Hawk offer, runs with Baltimore Elite. St. Joe's sophomore forward Isaiah Miles is a product of the program.

Massachusetts-based Expressions Elite has 6'8 stretch forward Aaron Falzon, who holds a Hawk offer but is now generating heaps of high-major interest. Expressions Elite also has 6'6 wing guard Arkel Lamar, who took in a game at Hawk Hill this season but doesn't hold an offer yet. 6'8 bouncy power forward Jesse Bunting could emerge as another Hawk target this summer. I would expect Expressions Elite to be one of the more heavily-tracked programs by the Hawks this summer.

Oak Hill (VA) point guard Terrence Phillips is running with CP3 this season, another program with Hawk ties. St. Joe's junior point guard Chris Wilson is also an alum of the EYBL team. The Hawks are involved with Phillips as a point guard option in 2015.

Team Takeover (Kevin Dorsey) and Boo Williams (Justin Robinson) also have 2015 point guard targets that the Hawks are monitoring. Team Scan has 6'4 shooting guard Chancellor Ellis, another guard who has been linked to the Hawks. Incoming Hawk point guard Shavar Newkirk ran with Team Scan on the EYBL last year.

We will now turn our attention to the Pitt Jam Fest.

Under Armour's answer to the EYBL is their Under Armour Championship Series. The Pitt Jam Fest is their April Live Period event. St. Joe's will also be represented there. We R 1, Philly Pride, Team Philly, and Mid Atlantic Select are four of the teams participating in Pittsburgh of note to Hawk fans.

We R 1 stars top-25 wing Derrick Jones, Villanova commit Tim Delaney, and then three players with Hawk offers. Archbishop Carroll (PA) power forward Ernest Aflakpui, who has emerged as one of SJU's top 2015 targets, mans the middle for We R 1. Life Center Academy (NJ) backcourt-mates Traci Carter and Malik Ellison also run with We R 1, although Carter is out commission for the next three months. Expect St. Joe's to have eyes on We R 1 throughout this entire weekend, and then again in July.

Philly Pride stars St. Joe's Prep (PA) wing guard Chris Clover. The 6'4 wing is possibly SJU's top overall target in 2015. He will be tracked hard in April and July. Temple, Villanova, and St. Joe's are three of the schools to have offered the talented guard.

Team Philly has Imhotep (PA) wing Sean Lloyd and Math, Civics, and Sciences (PA) combo guard Samir Doughty. Both Lloyd and Doughty have been linked with the Hawks in the past. Lloyd is a tough wing in the mold of current Hawk, and West Virginia transfer, Aaron Brown. Doughty is a crafty scoring point guard who could be the best guard in the city of Philadelphia next year. Doughty's recruitment should really pick up this summer.

Maryland-based Mid-Atlantic Select features 6'4 guard CJ Keyser. One of Keyser's high school coaches, Jeroud Clark, told me earlier this week that Temple, Monmouth, St. Joe's, George Mason, Delaware, URI, St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, and Towson were among the schools most involved with the hyper-athletic guard. Keyser made trips north to visit Temple and St. Joe's several times this past season.

Last year, St. Joe's got their first look at James Demery and Obi Romeo at the Pitt Jam Fest. Neither name was really on the Hawk radar going into the event. Romeo and Demery now make up half of a terrific 2014 SJU recruiting class. While there are dozens of names already on the SJU recruiting radar, new names will continue to pop up, just like they do every year.

Hawk Hill Hardwood will have updates on the homepage and on the message boards throughout the weekend. The national Scout team will also be out on the road at the above events, as well as others. This is your place to stay up-to-date on all things St. Joe's recruiting this weekend.
