4/17 News and Notes

On Saturday afternoon, one of St. Joe's top 2016 recruiting targets, junior St. Thomas More (CT) guard Christian Vital, will take an unofficial visit to Hawk Hill. Get the latest on this and more inside.

Christian Vital is a 6'2 combo guard out of St. Thomas More (CT). Per his Twitter account, he will visit St. Joe's on Saturday. Vital is a New York City native who attends prep school in Connecticut and plays his AAU ball with the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL. Current Hawk freshman Shavar Newkirk also played for the New York-based Nike AAU program. During last weekend's EYBL event in Virginia, Vital averaged 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Vital is one of several 2016 guards with Hawk offers. 6'1 St. John's College (DC) guard Jeff Dowtin, 6'4 Rochester Adams (MI) shooting guard Spencer Littleson, and 6'2 St. Joe's Metuchen (NJ) combo guard Breein Tyree also hold offers from Phil Martelli and the SJU staff.

St. Joe's has extended a number of new offers this week. In the class of 2016, SJU has extended offers this week to Putnam Science Academy (CT) 6'8 power forward Mamadou Diarra, 6'10 Hershey (PA) stretch forward Dylan Painter, and 6'4 Rochester Adams (MI) shooting guard Spencer Littleson. The Diarra offer was first reported by his high school coach, the Painter offer by City of Basketball Love's Josh Verlin, and the Littleson offer by his AAU program, 1 Nation.

In addition to the three 2016 offers, the Hawks also offered three 2017 recruits this week, following last weekend's live period. We R1 teammates Zach Kent (6'10 St. Andrew's forward) and Eric Ayala (6'2 Sanford guard) picked up offers earlier this week, according to their AAU coach. Then, last night, junior Archbishop Carroll (PA)/Philly Pride combo guard David Beatty collected an offer from the Hawks, per Josh Verlin. Incoming Hawk Chris Clover played his AAU ball with Philly Pride. SJU's top 2016 target, 6'7 Friends' Central (PA) forward DeAndre Hunter, also plays for Philly Pride. Hunter picked up two new offers last night, from Miami and Hofstra.

As new offers and visits present themselves, I will have all the latest details here, on Hawk Hill Hardwood.
