Robinson recaps visit to Hawk Hill

Kenwood Academy (IL) wing Nick Robinson took his first official visit earlier this week when he traveled east to Philadelphia and visited Saint Joseph's. The athletic wing guard visited St. Joe's and has an official visit to Cal planned for this week. Robinson spoke with Hawk Hill Hardwood about his visit to St. Joe's, his love for the city's food, and what's next in his recruitment.

Nick Robinson, a 6'6 200-pound wing guard out of Chicago, flew east to Philadelphia on Monday to begin his first official visit. He loved his first taste of the City of Brotherly Love. Literally.

'Oh man, the food was so good," Robinson said, laughing, by phone. "I really loved Philadelphia, it was an amazing experience. The food was great, we went to this huge market in Center City (Reading Terminal Market). I loved it. I had my first real Philadelphia cheesesteak."

Of course, Robinson's visit to Hawk Hill was about much more than the food. It was, after all, his first official visit. When he committed to Indiana State in the fall, he had never visited the campus officially. That rushed decision, and the fact that he hadn't taken any official visits, led to him reopening his recruitment this winter.

"Coach Bass was the lead coach during the visit, but all the coaches did their part. They all spent time with me," Nick explained. "We got there on Monday, and I went into the gym and got shots up, but Tuesday was the day when we did everything. Toured the campus, visited classes, went into the locker rooms and weight room, went into the city. Just everything. I stayed on campus, in a dorm, in a room by myself. Then my mom, who came on the visit, she stayed off campus in a hotel."

This was Nick's first official visit to a college campus. While he took an unofficial to Indiana State, he hasn't exactly spent a lot of time on college campuses. So what did he think of Hawk Hill? "It was an amazing campus, really beautiful. Honestly it was all positives, the campus and the visit. I don't have any negatives at all. The players were all cool, really easy to talk to, easy to relate to."

The St. Joe's visit that Nick Robinson took earlier this week was one of two scheduled officials. This Thursday, he flies west to visit a Pac 12 school. "I'm going out to Cal this week," he began. "I want to see the school, get a better feel for it. I've never been to California, so I'm looking forward to it.

Saint Joseph's and Cal are "both high on my list," Nick explained. That being said, he's not ready to say that he's down to the two schools. "There's a couple more schools that are showing interest and I want to see if that could turn into offers," he stated. When asked what other schools could get visits and what others schools could potentially offer, he mentioned Wisconsin (interest, no offer yet) and Valparaiso (offer) as schools that could possibly get visits. "I'm not really sure on a decision yet. I'll probably sit down and make a decision in like a month, or a month and a half," Robinson detailed.

St. Joe's got first crack at the hyper-athletic wing guard. Now Cuonzo Martin and Cal get their shot. With schools like Wisconsin and Valparaiso also very much in play, there is still a ways to go in Nick Robinson's recruitment. After admittedly rushing into a decision the first time around, he is not going to make the same mistake twice.
