On Monday, 6’4 Crown Point (IN) shooting guard Sasha Stefanovic trimmed his list down to five schools, as first reported by Phenom Hoop Report. Stefanovic cut his list to St. Joe’s, Evansville, Loyola of Chicago, Valparaiso, and Northern Iowa. Prior to cutting his list, Sasha was also considering offers from Xavier, Princeton, Yale, and many others.
Stefanovic played for the Eric Gordon All Stars on the Adidas travel circuit. During 8 games in April, he averaged 12.6 points per game, shooting 18-55 (33%) from three and 19-22 (86%) from the free throw line. During 6 games during the final July period, he averaged 9.2 points per game, shooting 13-42 (31%) from three and 6-8 (75%) from the line. Combine those stats and you have a decent sample size of 14 games, where he shot 31-97 (32%) from three and 25-30 (83%) from the line.
At the moment, Stefanovic does not have his official visits lined up. As those visits get scheduled, I will have that information here.
The staff is currently involved with Clifton Moore, Anthony Longpre, Walter Whyte, and Sasha Stefanovic as the primary 2017 recruits left in play. Keep in mind, as well, that the Hawks have only one scholarship left, as they already have a commitment from 6’7 stretch forward Taylor Funk.
On Tuesday, the Hawks hosted two recruits for unofficial visits. 6’3 Northfield Mount Hermon shooting guard Calvin Whipple visited campus Tuesday. At the moment, he does not hold a Hawk offer, but two of his classmates do. St. Joe’s has offers out to 6’7 forwards Chuck Hannah and Nate Laszewski. Hannah is more of a true post-up, dirty-work four, while Laszewski, a top 100 recruit, is a stretch forward. Whipple picked up his first offer earlier this week from Stony Brook.
In addition to Whipple, St. Joe’s also played host to 2019 Brooks (MA) wing Preston Santos. Santos recently reclassified into the 2019 class. Bryant, Monmouth, George Washington, and Rhode Island have already offered the athletic 6’6 wing, who plays with Expressions Elite.
Two of St. Joe’s top 2017 targets should have developing news in the coming days. Clifton Moore’s trimmed list and visit schedule should be released in the next day or two. Anthony Longpre is also likely to start scheduling his visits, and St. Joe’s is very much in the mix for one of his officials. Walter Whyte, who already trimmed to 12, visited St. Joe’s unofficially earlier this month. He is likely to start scheduling his officials shortly as well. Stay tuned to Hawk Hill Hardwood for all the latest!
