Hawks offer, host 2018 targets

With St. Joe’s presumably wrapped up in the 2017 recruiting class, attention has already shifted to the current class of high school juniors. The Hawks extended a new 2018 offer yesterday, and then today host one of their primary targets for an unofficial visit. Get the latest inside.

Yesterday, St. Joe’s offered 6’4 Hill School (NJ) shooting guard Chase Audige. Audige played this last travel season for the PSA Cardinals. A native New Yorker, Audige holds offers from UMass, Drexel, Stony Brook, Towson, Binghamton, and others. A high academic recruit, he has also taken recent visits to Yale and Columbia.

The Hawks are clearly targeting a wing guard in the 2018 class, as in that year James Demery will be a senior. Chris Clover will be a junior, then Charles Brown and Nick Robinson sophomores in 2018 as well. Other wing guards with St. Joe’s offers in that class include Atiba Taylor, Tavon Jones, Matthue Cotton, Justin Anderson, Noah Locke, and Allen Betrand.

After offering Audige yesterday, the Hawks are hosting a point guard today. 5’10 Georgetown Prep (DC) lead guard Jared Bynum visits Hawk Hill. Bynum was offered by the Hawks over the summer, and Phil Martelli went down to DC at the end of September to watch him and his teammate Mezie Offurum, a wing who holds offers from SJU, Maryland, Indiana, and many more.

Bynum holds offers from St. Joe’s, George Mason, Lehigh, Old Dominion, American, George Washington, Towson, and others. For the DC Blue Devils this past travel season, he averaged 12.6 points, 2.5 points, and 2.4 rebounds per, in the 13 games posted on Under Armour’s site. Bynum was a 74% free throw shooter, and shot 25-66 (38%) from three.

St. Joe’s has a huge leg up, wrapping up its 2017 recruiting when it did. That allows the staff to hit the road, checking in on 2018 and 2019 targets. It will also allow them to host sophomores and juniors for unofficial visits, like they’re doing with Jared Bynum today.
