Quick Hits: Billikens Fall To Temple

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Saint Louis Billikens lost their first home game of the season against the visiting Temple Owls by a score of 72-67. Ben Weixlmann breaks down the game.

Game ball: Temple guard Khalif Wyatt. Wyatt was 9-for-13 from the field, including a five-minute stretch in which he nailed three shots from behind the arc.

Key number: 9/14. That was SLU's free-throw shooting for tonight. Dwayne Evans, who shot 2-for-6 from the stripe against George Washington connected on just two of his four attempts. Brian Conklin and Rob Loe also missed crucial free throws in crunch time that hurt potential comeback opportunities for the Billikens.

Weix's Take: When SLU raced out to a 13-6 lead, it looked as though the home squad would extend its perfect home record at Chaifetz Arena. However, as was the case on numerous occasions tonight, Temple answered each and every run that the Billikens put together. Four points from Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and a bucket from Wyatt narrowed the gap to 13-12. Both times SLU came within one point, Temple not only converted on the other end, but completed ‘And-1' plays. If this team is going to get back on track, it starts with getting tougher and finding a lockdown defender. Right now, there's nobody who can go out and get stops in a 1-on-1 situation and that was evidenced tonight. It didn't matter who was guarding Wyatt, he got his shot and scored. SLU's going to face a lot of teams in the A-10 with players who can flat-out dominate a game, including their next opponent – Charlotte's Chris Braswell.

Quote of the Day:"We have to be tougher the last five minutes. There's going to be a lot of in-conference games where it's gonna come down to the last five minutes and we have to get stops. We didn't get them at Dayton the last five minutes. We didn't get them tonight. Teams are just scoring at will the last five minutes." --Brian Conklin

Up Next:SLU heads to Charlotte on Saturday to face the 49ers. The Billikens have yet to register to a signature road win this season.
