Quick Hits: SLU Dismantles Duquesne 68-41

BillikenReport.com hands out the game ball and talks about SLU's resounding win at home over Duquesne.

Game ball: Dwayne Evans. The sophomore small forward had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He provided a spark down low for the Billikens from the start and didn't let up.

Weix's Take: This was a must-win for SLU. Heading on the road for two games against Xavier and UMass this week will show if this team is "for real". SLU got contributions from a number of players (five were in double figures). This is the kind of dominating performance that SLU needed as a confidence boost before they take on the conference stalwart Musketeers. Perhaps most importantly, the Bills are 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play. Assistant coach Chris Harriman, who took over for Rick Majerus in the interview room postgame, was extremely pleased with his team's defensive effort. After getting the best of T.J. McConnell, SLU must now focus on stopping Tu Holloway and Mark Lyons, two of the finest players in the league. If they can get a 'W' in Cincinnati, SLU will cement themselves as a true contender for the league title, which currently runs through Dayton.

Key Number: 21.4%. That was Duquesne's field goal percentage in the second half. The Dukes mustered up just 15 points on six field goals in the final 20 minutes. SLU created great ball pressure and forced the visitors into 15 turnovers compared to just seven assists.

Up Next: The Billikens head on the road to face Xavier on Wednesday before continuing east to take on UMass on Saturday.
