Quick Hits: SLU Wins 20, Completes Road Sweep

The Billikens moved their record to 20-5 on the year and 8-3 in Atlantic 10 play with a road win at La Salle on Saturday.

Game ball: Dwayne Evans. The sophomore forward was tremendous on Saturday afternoon and ended with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Evans corralled six of those boards on the offensive end, which led to several second-chance opportunities for the Billikens.

Key Number: 16. That's how many offensive rebounds the Billikens had. Evans obviously contributed heavily towards the cause, but it was a total team effort on the glass.

Weix's Take: Heading into this week, the Billikens knew they needed to gain at least a split against St. Joseph's and La Salle to have a chance at the Atlantic 10 regular season crown. The mission has been accomplished and SLU reached the 20-win plateau in the process. The Billikens, who are lauded for their defense, came up strong once again and forced 20 turnovers. It was one of those grind-em-out wins for SLU. It shot just 36 percent as a team, and 27 percent from the three-point line. However, a lock-down defensive job featuring 11 steals for the visitors allowed it to gain another road victory. There's still plenty of time left before things are decided, but SLU is positioning itself quite nicely for a place in the "Big Dance" this year. That would mark the first time since 2000 that the Billikens made a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Up Next: The Billikens return home for a week at Chaifetz Arena against Richmond and Fordham. The Spiders come in on Wednesday and the Rams and Bills face off on Saturday. On paper, this should be the easiest week of the A-10 schedule for the Bills.
