Rivers Improving Ahead of July

2014 C.J. Rivers, who runs with the Southwest Illinois Jets, has continued to improve ahead of the July live recruiting period.

On a team with several marquee names, C.J. Rivers sits back quietly and runs the show efficiently.

The six-foot-three Rivers plays the point guard spot for the 16U Southwest Illinois Jets and recently received rave reviews for his performance at the Michigan Elite Camp.

"This young point guard has really stepped it up as of late, and his court-generalship was impressive Saturday," GoBlueWolverine.com wrote. "Rivers got into the lane and finished at a high rate. He has always been effective finding teammates, especially off of dribble penetration… but it was nice to see him complement that ability this time out by scoring himself. Rivers was a pleasant and encouraging surprise. Definitely a youngster that improved his stock Saturday and GBW is looking forward to seeing more of his development."

His AAU coach, Dana Morgan, told BillikenReport.com that many schools have been in contact recently, including Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Indiana State, Saint Louis, SIU-Edwardsville, Stanford.

"He's a high academic kid and they're looking for a point guard in the class [of 2014]," Morgan said of the Cardinal. "They're looking for a kid with some size [like Rivers]. . .I think C.J. fits that mold and fits that academic mold."

"He's getting in three workouts a day," Morgan said. "He wakes up at 5:30 in the morning and works with a personal trainer, he's in the gym again at 11 o'clock working on his skill set, and then he works out with his high school team."

His shot and defense were the two question marks coming into the spring, but after a confidence-boosting camp in Ann Arbor, perhaps he'll show his complete array in July.

"He's understanding what he needs to do as a point guard and especially defensively," Morgan said. "I'm positive there are a couple of schools that will offer him after July."
