Under the late Rick Majerus, Saint Louis University maintained connections all over the country, and even internationally.
The Billikens are stepping away from Missouri yet again, and eyeing a 6-foot-1 lead guard from Inglewood, Calif. In Randy Onwuasor.
Onwuasor will make an official visit to SLU on April 11.
"My strength is being an overall player," he said. "Being able to do everything on the court. I need to improve my shooting, and the confidence in my shot. If I miss five shots in a row, I need to want to shoot the next one."
Interim head coach Jim Crews saw Onwuasor's tape and put in a call to his high school coach, before talking to Onwuasor himself.
"I'm looking forward to getting to know the players and the coaches more," he said of his upcoming visit. "Just being in that environment where the supporters and fans are. Also, meeting with the teachers, educators, tutors, and other people on that side of things."
Because he's aiming for a late April or early May commitment, the Billikens aren't the only stop he's making. Tulane will also likely get a visit some time before the month is over.
New Mexico State is his lone offer, but he claims interest from Seton Hall, Arkansas, UNLV, and Florida State.
With SLU having just one commitment for the Class of 2013 already in Mike Crawford, Onwuasor could figure into the mix and get some playing time in his early years.
"I hope I'm in the run for playing time," he said. "That's all that matters. I just want to be on the floor at the end of the day. I'm looking for the best fit for me, but I don't want to come in three-deep in the hole at my position."
