SLU has tracked 6-foot-11 Austin Gillmann for quite some time now, but on Saturday head coach Jim Crews pulled the trigger on an offer.
The Oakville High School big man played well at the Billiken team camp, showing an ability to score inside in the post and get strong position on the block.
It all culminated in a scholarship offer being extended to the St. Louis area native.
"It was really exciting," he told BillikenReport.com. "I've been in touch with them for a couple weeks now on a more frequent basis, and I knew they had interest but I wasn't expecting [an offer].
Gillmann has always had SLU high up on his wish list.
"They're definitely pretty high," he said. "It's a good program, a good group of coaches. We toured the school a month or two and liked it. I like the guys and it's close to home."
Gillmann's father Daron was also quite impressed.
"SLU has always been the top school," he said. "We're so proud and excited."
A decision could be coming in the near future once the family gets a chance to sit down and discuss options.
Currently, Gillmann holds offers from Illinois State and North Dakota.
