Following a nice showing at the Adidas Invitational this week, 2014 forward Kelan Martin added another offer to his sheet -- this one coming from head coach Jim Crews and the Saint Louis Billikens.
Martin has built a solid relationship with the coaching staff at SLU, and his performance during the first live period cemented the interest that the Bills had in the Kentucky native.
"I proved people wrong about just playing the four," he said. "They thought I was only a power forward, but I showed I could -play the three. I played hard and played really good defense."
At 6-foot-6, Martin knows that playing on the perimeter would help him garner plenty of looks moving forward.
He currently claims offers from SLU, Providence, UMKC, Indiana State, Texas Tech, Western Kentucky, and IUPUI. Butler, Xavier, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Richmond are some of the schools that haven't pulled the trigger quite yet.
Assistant coach Tanner Bronson has been the point man on Martin's recruitment and there seems to be a connection there.
"I can talk to him whenever I want," he said. "I can tell him anything or contact him any time. I talked to Coach [Jim] Crews earlier today too and have a good relationship with him."
He also had positive words to say about the program as a whole.
"It's an A-10 school with a good basketball program," he said. "It's a top academic school and that's important to me."
Martin plans to visit SLU at some point in the late summer or fall and will also narrow down his school list in August to around five in order to make it more manageable.
