Mitchell to Visit Saint Louis

Kwamain Mitchell will leave Whitefish Bay, Wis., at 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning to make the 385-mile drive to St. Louis. If everything goes well for the Dominican High School junior point guard, it might be a six-hour drive he makes several times over the next few years.

A slashing 6-foot-1, 180-pound guard, Mitchell has scholarship offers from Saint Louis University, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Loyola University Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has been talking to several other schools.

He received the scholarship offer from the Billikens a couple weeks ago and will make an unofficial visit to the campus on Thursday — his first trip to the city of St. Louis.

Mitchell said he doesn't plan to make a decision on his college destination until later in the summer or just before the start of his high school season, but the combo guard likes Saint Louis U.

"They're probably No. 1," he said Wednesday night.

Mitchell already knows about the school's academic programs and the Chaifetz Arena being built on campus.

He's also heard a little bit about the Billikens' new coach, Wisconsin native Rick Majerus.

"My coach has told me so much about him I can't wait to meet him," he said.

The Majerus connection to the Milwaukee area is strong. The new coach heard good things about the Whitefish Bay Dominican guard, and one thing led to another.

"My coach told me some of his friends from Milwaukee told him about me and said he needed to watch me play," Mitchell said.

Mitchell averaged 19.3 points per game as a sophomore and 16.4 points per game as a junior. He led the Green Knights to a 21-4 record and a perfect 15-0 mark in the Midwest Classic Conference.

One of Mitchell's teammates, 6-8 senior forward Cameron Madlock, recently signed with Bowling Green State University.
