Billikens nab another

Kwamain Mitchell can see what new coach Rick Majerus is building at Saint Louis University and he sees himself being a good fit for the Billikens. The point guard from Whitefish Bay Dominican High in Wisconsin made his decision on Wednesday.

"I want to be a part of that," Mitchell said.

The 6-foot-1 guard committed to Saint Louis U. on Wednesday over offers from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Loyola University Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as well as interest from others.

"I'm excited," Mitchell said. "The pressure is over. I'm very happy."

Mitchell said last month that SLU was No. 1 on his list after making an unofficial visit to the school.

After his visit last month, Mitchell said: "It was just awesome. It was wonderful. Just awesome. Great."

The point guard likes the new coach, the coach's vision for the program and the campus.

"I just loved the campus," Mitchell said. "They are building a new arena. My mom and I just sat down and I committed today."

Mitchell averaged 19.3 points per game as a sophomore and 16.4 points per game as a junior. He led the Green Knights to a 21-4 record and a Midwest Classic Conference championship.

Mitchell becomes the third verbal commitment for the Class of 2008, joining 6-11 post players Brett Thompson (Vienna, Ill.) and Willie Reed (Shawnee Mission, Kan.).

With Mitchell on board, along with the two big men, SLU will turn its attention to shooting guards Scott Suggs and Matt Roth and small forward Jesse Perry. The Billikens still have three scholarships to give for the Class of 2008.
