Billikens Get First Road Victory

The Saint Louis University basketball team hasn't fared very well on the road this season and the Billikens' road trips to Kent State, Boston College and George Washington stick out as low points during the first year for coach Rick Majerus.

But on Saturday in Philadelphia, Saint Louis was able to find that elusive first victory on the road this season as the Billikens defeated La Salle 81-74 in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at Tom Gola Arena.

Junior guard Kevin Lisch led four SLU players in double figures with his game-high 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with six assists and two steals.

Senior forward Luke Meyer had 18 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Danny Brown came off the bench to contribute 13 points, including two 3-pointers, in 29 minutes. Junior guard Tommie Liddell III had 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 38 minutes.

Saint Louis (11-8 overall, 2-3 A-10) shot 63 percent from the field (34 of 54) and 73.9 percent in the second half (17 of 23). The Billikens led 38-35 at halftime and were able to outscore the hosts 43-39 in the final 20 minutes.

La Salle (7-11, 2-3) was led by forward Yves Mekongo Mbala's 18 points.

The Billikens now have a tough assignment on the road at Dayton on Wednesday, Jan. 30, for a 6 p.m. (CT) Atlantic 10 game.
