Hutcheson Makes His Pick

Swingman Nate Hutcheson of Linn-Marr High School in Marion, Iowa, narrowed his college choices to three schools: Western Michigan, Santa Clara and Saint Louis. But after taking two official visits, he found the right fit.

After taking official visits to WMU and Santa Clara the last two weekends, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward committed to Western Michigan this week.

"I really liked the coaches and what they did with program the last few years," Hutcheson told the Kalamazoo Gazette. "All the coaches are very knowledgeable about the game and coach (Steve) Hawkins is a great basketball mind. All the players they've recruited are high-class players. I don't know, I just felt good there.

"Just the fact that I know they're a winning team. I know I'm going to get to play right away or fight for a spot right away my first year. Their coaching staff, I just loved. They're like a family. It's really cool what they have going on."

After making his official visit to Western Michigan, Hutcheson had nothing but good things to say about the Broncos and their coaching staff.

"I had a good visit," Hutcheson said. "I really like Western Michigan. They are really good coaches and a really good team. It's a good situation there.

"They said I would play right away. They are graduating a couple guys from my positions. They said they would need a player like me who is versatile and can play the 2, 3 or 4."

Hutcheson made his official visit to Santa Clara this past weekend. He then decided to commit to Western Michigan and cancel his official visit to Saint Louis, where he had already made an official visit a couple months earlier.
