Billikens Add Another Recruit

The Saint Louis University basketball team had a prospect from across the globe make an official visit to the school recently. That player liked what he saw and plans to become a Billiken next year.

Christian Salecich is a 6-foot-3/6-4, 190-pounder from Australia capable of playing either guard position. The 18-year-old is currently attending the Australian Institute of Sport.

He made an official visit to Saint Louis University and committed to play for coach Rick Majerus.

"After my visit to the school I found it was the right place for me," Salecich said in an e-mail message on Thursday.

Majerus had successfully recruited Australia during his time at Utah. The coach made a visit there earlier this fall and apparently was impressed with the combo guard from the Gold Coast, Queensland.

Asked about his game, Salecich responded: "My game is pretty simple. I am a shooter and a defensive stopper."

Salecich's biography from the AIS website has the following note: "A returning guard from 2007, Christian can nail 3's from the car park. This confident young guard has no fear in taking or making big shots when required. However he needs to be more consistent and aggressive with his offensive output. Christian's defensive capabilities will be called upon to lock down some opposition guns during the year. Christian will be working on his ball handling, strength and speed to become a well rounded player."

Salecich becomes the third prospect to commit to Saint Louis University in the Class of 2009, joining Ohio forward Jonathan Smith and Texas forward Cory Remekun.
