Reed Named A-10 Rookie Of The Week

It didn't take long for freshman forward Willie Reed to become a fan favorite at Chaifetz Arena. On Monday, Reed earned some recognition from the Atlantic 10 Conference when he was named the league's rookie of the week.

Reed, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Kansas City, turned in two strong performances last week in wins against Maryland-Baltimore County and North Carolina A&T. He averaged 15 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 78.6 percent (11 of 14) from the field.

He made all seven of his field goal attempts as he scored a season-best 18 points and had three blocked shots in the SLU's 81-60 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Dec. 30.

Reed scored 12 points and added eight rebounds, which tied his season high, as the Billikens came from behind to defeat North Carolina A&T 60-52 on Jan. 2. He made a crucial play with 7 minutes, 16 seconds remaining in that when he converted a three-point play to tie the score at 50-50.

The Kansas City native has established himself as one of three freshmen starters for Saint Louis U. Point guard Kwamain Mitchell and forward Brian Conklin have started all of the Billikens' 14 games. After coming off the bench early in the season, Reed has now started seven games.

Reed is averaging 7.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game and leads the team in field goal percentage (58.1) and blocked shots (13).
