Saint Louis Wins In Three Overtimes

When Saint Louis University hosted Richmond at Chaifetz Arena on Jan. 25, the Billikens were without freshman point guard Kwamain Mitchell because of a concussion suffered against Temple.

Mitchell was on the court for the rematch on Sunday and made a big difference. After Kevin Lisch sent the game into a third overtime period with a last-second 3-pointer, Mitchell scored eight points in the third overtime to lead Saint Louis to a dramatic 85-72 victory at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va.

Lisch, a senior guard, led all scorers with 27 points. He added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals in 52 minutes. His 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in the second overtime period, after he stepped through two defenders, was one of his five 3-pointers on the day.

Saint Louis improved to 14-9 overall and 5-4 in the Atlantic 10.

The Billikens trailed 58-52 with 3 minutes, 7 seconds left in regulation, but were able to hold Richmond (11-12, 3-5) scoreless the rest of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Saint Louis trailed 31-29 at halftime, but outscored Richmond 29-27 in the second half. SLU shot 52.2 percent in the second half (12 of 23) and 50 percent (30 of 60) for the game.
