SLU Women Win Exhibition Game

ST. LOUIS – Junior Lauren Woods scored a game-high 15 points, and Saint Louis cruised to a 28-point halftime lead en route to a 69-37 exhibition victory over Southwest Baptist Thursday night at Chaifetz Arena.

Woods was seven of 12 from the field, including a 3-pointer. She was joined in double figures by senior center Amanda Kemezys, who scored 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting and added a game-high 11 rebounds, and senior guard Katie Paganelli, who tallied 10 points while also grabbing six rebounds.

Freshman forward Mallory Eggert collected eight rebounds to go with six points on 3-of-4 shooting. Freshman point guard Jacy Bradley tossed in seven points and snared five boards, while sophomore point guard Janisha Gearlds netted eight points.

Rachel Graves scored 13 points and Jasmine Sanford secured seven rebounds to lead NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist, a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Playing their only exhibition game, the Billikens caught fire a little past the midway point of the first half. Kemezys corralled an offensive rebound and scored with 8:46 to play, giving SLU a 20-13 lead and triggering a 23-0 outburst that put the Bills up 41-13 at intermission.

Saint Louis opens the regular season next Friday, Nov. 13, when Southern Illinois comes to Chaifetz Arena for an 8 p.m. tip. The Billikens-Salukis clash is the second half of a doubleheader that begins with the nationally ranked SLU volleyball team taking on Rhode Island at 6 p.m.

A ticket purchased for either the basketball game or the volleyball match is good for admittance to both events.
