Evans Signs With Billikens

Saint Louis University basketball coach Rick Majerus announced Wednesday that 6-foot-5 forward Dwayne Evans (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play basketball for the Billikens.

"Dwayne is a true scholar-athlete," Majerus said. "His father, Dwayne Sr., is earning a doctorate, and his mother, Janice, also has a master's degree. Dwayne is an advanced-placement honor student, and there is no doubt in my mind that he will be an Academic All-American. His credentials as a student-athlete as well as a player warrant that. The academic tradition in the Evans family is second to none.

"Dwayne comes from a winning program as witnessed by a 31-2 record last year," Majerus said. "Neuqua Valley will be one of the top teams in the state, and Dwayne will be a big part of that. Dwayne can play two or three positions offensively, although we will look for him to be a 2-3 wing. He is an excellent rebounder, a fine competitor and someone who places a premium on defense. Dwayne is a winner in the classroom and on the court. He is a great young man, and the Billikens are proud to sign him."

Evans was named to the 2009 Daily Herald All-Area team after averaging nearly 14 points and 10 rebounds a game for the Wildcats. He helped Neuqua Valley set a school record for wins as the team finished with 31 victories last season.

In the sectional finals of the 2009 state tournament, Evans scored 30 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. He is ranked as a top-20 player by ChicagoHoops.com, and he is regarded as a top-25 player by ChicagoSporting.com.

Evans has been on the Neuqua Valley academic honor roll every semester, including one high honor roll selection. His sister, Janice, is a senior captain on the Washington (Mo.) University women's basketball team.
