Woods Leads SLU Women To Win

ST. LOUIS — The Saint Louis University women's basketball team honored senior center Amanda Kemezys before Wednesday's game against visiting Tennessee Tech for recently passing the 1,000-point plateau.

Then Kemezys and the rest of the Saint Louis squad played one of their best games of the season to dispatch Tennessee Tech 78-58 at Chaifetz Arena and head off for Christmas break on a positive note.

"It was an absolute team effort, first of all," SLU coach Shimmy Gray-Miller said. "I don't think I've ever coached in a game here where one, that everyone played and two, that everyone who played had scored. Almost everyone had a rebound."

Junior forward Lauren Woods led the Billikens (5-7) with her first career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. Kemezys scored 14 points on seven-for-seven shooting.

Freshman guard Jacy Bradley added 14 points, as SLU's bench contributed 33 points. Freshman guard Ashley Hanlen scored a career-high nine points.

Saint Louis shot a season-high 56 percent from the field (28 of 50). The Billikens made five of their seven 3-point attempts, with Hanlen and senior guard Katie Paganelli each knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.

SLU coach Shimmy Gray-Miller talks about the victory.
