Defensive back Chidobe Awuzie of Oak Grove HS in San Jose, CA picked up an offer from San Diego State.
Last season Awuzie saw action as a running back and wide receiver as he exceled in both limited roles. As a runner he had 249 yards on only 23 carries including 3 touchdowns. As well as 211 yards on 13 catches for 4 touchdowns.
While he's a playmaker on offense, he is being recruited as a defensive back.
"I can do anything in the secondary but I like to play man because I'm quick with my feet but when it comes to zone I'm good at biting things and reading what the receiver does and the quarterback steps," Awuzie said. "I can play safety too. I can play anything in DB as I practice everyday so kind of second nature to me."
The 6-foot-0 and 180 pound beast in the secondary is looking to improve on his latest 4.44 40-time, his bench press and his grades but on the field one thing sticks out.
"Keeping my intensity throughout a whole period of time," Awuzie said. "I would have good showings but at times I'll get lazy and mess up."
The football star can also be found on the track as he competes in the 200-meter, the long jump and relays.
Awuzie also has offers from Washington State, Nevada and San Jose State. He is also hearing from Washington and Colorado.
While he has never been to San Diego State before he does think the offer comes with positives.
"I have heard about the weather, people they [SDSU] put in the NFL and it's a good place to play football," Awuzie said.
The talented defensive back was quite clear on what a program must have for him to go there.
"They have to win, be in contention to go to a bowl game," Awuzie said. "I just want to win."
He has no visits planned and is in no rush to make a decision.
"I'll probably visit [SDSU] but I haven't given it much thought yet," Awuzie explained. "Still trying to see if anything else is coming in then I'll try to organize all that."
The Northern California talent will be at the Nike Football Training Camp on May 20th in Oakland.
