Pangos All-American Camp: Evaluations

AztecReport.com was at the Pangos All-American Camp in Long Beach (Calif.) this past weekend to check out 15+ San Diego State targets. Evaluations of Dakarai Allen, Anthony January, Brandon Randolph, Shaqquan Aaron and many more are included.

AztecReport.com was at the prestigious Pangos All-American Camp in Long Beach (Calif.) this past weekend to check out 15+ San Diego State targets. Here is an in-depth look at each prospect:

2013

Dakarai Allen (Top 30) – By far the best overall performance I have seen out of the 4-star target. He made his usual plays on defense by taking charges, blocking shots, shutdown man-to-man defense including locking down Georgetown commit Stephen Domingo in the All-Star game. Offensively is where I saw a different Allen as he was attacking the rim at will with euro-steps and blow byes, even finished with a couple throw downs that I haven't seen out of him before. His outside shot was also clicking, just a great overall weekend from the long 6-foot-6 prospect.

Anthony January (Top 60) – At 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, January can do just about anything as he demonstrated at the camp. He played progressively better throughout the weekend. The athletic wing showed that he has the ability to beat his defender off the dribble then either going all the way to the hole or pulling up for an effective midrange jumper. As I have stated before, his athletic ability alone is one of the best on the west coast and he brings a toughness and grit to the court. Felt January deserved to be in the Top 30 All-Star game. Also I caught up with the reclassified product to discuss his recruitment.

Brandon Randolph (Top 60) – This was my first look at Randolph since the high school season and he looked fantastic. The combo guard was putting the opposition on their heels as he had a good balance of scoring and playmaking. The 3-star target scored in his usual ways: attacking the rim and using the midrange J. He continues to develop his point guard skills that were either hit or miss this weekend but the potential and skill set are there. He still only holds offers from SDSU and Pepperdine, check out the exclusive AztecReport.com interview with him from the camp.

Ikenna Iroegbu (Top 30) – The 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds point guard continues to improve every time I see him as he plays with a purpose and a feel for the game. Irogebu is so athletic and quick off the dribble that he is able to create his own shot or for others. The Oak Hill Academy lead guard has yet to hear from SDSU but is expected to per his AAU coach.

Jaron Hopkins (Top 30) – Hopkins played like his usual self, showing off his athleticism as a combo guard. The upside on Hopkins is quite high with his playmaking still developing. The 4-star prospect recently transferred Basha HS (Phoenix, AZ) to Dobson HS (Mesa, AZ) with another SDSU target in Torren Jones. I also keep hearing Hopkins is being recruited by Findlay Prep. Hopkins took visits to USC and UCLA during his time in LA.

Isaac Hamilton (Top 30) – Hamilton never seemed to get into a rhythm this weekend with a team full of ball stoppers. There were moments where he went bonkers, hitting from all over, but never received consistent touches. His camp ended badly after taking a hard fall on the last game, he will be OK but didn't play in the All-Star game.

Jordan Bell (Top 30) – Bell seemed much more comfortable not being the center of his team. He was able to roam on defense as he didn't have to defend a larger post player. The 3-star talent had some highlight plays throughout the weekend with some monster jams and big time blocks. His offensive game will more than likely hold him back from earning a SDSU offer.

Roschon Prince (Top 30) – The 6-foot-6 and 180 pound wing went into the weekend with a bum ankle and wasn't going to suit up Friday night, possibly the whole camp, but it took about 15 minutes before I caught Prince lacing up his shoes to get on the court. 3-star prospect was one of the few players at camp to lock up his opposition and not shy away from contact.

Paul Watson (Top 60) – Watson showed a better competitive fire than I have seen from him previously, could be from the amount of scouts and competition at camp. He was active on the glass and had the opportunity to play off the baseline and high post, giving him more opportunities. At this moment, Watson needs to show more to earn a scholarship from the Aztecs.

Chance Murray (Top 60) – Murray is a fundamentally sound player who at times you forget he's still playing but when you look at the box score he has 15+ points. That being said, he was aggressive with good body control and ability to finish through contact. He played well enough to earn himself a Top 60 selection.

2014

Shaqquan Aaron (Top 30) – No one impressed me more from this weekend than Aaron. At 6-foot-8 and 170 pounds, Aaron can score in anyway he desires: breaking you down off the dribble so he can rain it from downtown, midrange or take it all the way to the basket. Aaron also has the ability to create for others and he moves so fluently for his size and length. He has a mentality about him on the court that is just hard to duplicate. Everything about him screams his ceiling can go as far as he's willing to take it. One of the top moments of the camp was when Aaron and 2013 Penn State commit Brandon Austin were going basket for basket, putting on an absolute show. As for next season, Aaron is still unsure on where he will be attending high school.

Daniel Hamilton (Top 30) – Hamilton was another player who became more comfortable as the camp continued. On the final day, he was doing just about anything he wanted, looking like a mini Kevin Durant. The 6-foot-7 and 175 pound scoring machine flows in transition where he can pull up, attack the rim or make some passes that no one at his size should be able to make. At times he does play out of control but the sky is the limit for the 4-star prospect.

Stanley Johnson (Top 30) – Johnson has been out to prove himself since the new Scout rankings and after his Oakland EYBL performance, he continued it on this weekend. The 4-star talent has a thick build that he uses well due to his high IQ. With every national recruiting analysts watching, Johnson earned co-MVP honors of the All-Star game in a great offensive performance; scoring, dishing and rebounding.

Namon Wright (Top 30) – Another surprise! Wright was terrific all weekend long; playing some of the best basketball I have seen from him. The 6-foot-4 wing was looking for his shot rather than hesitating like I have seen from him in AAU. He showed why he's ranked in Scout's Top 75 for the 2014 class.

Brian Beard - Beard is one of the top defensive and pass first point guards on the west coast in the 2014 class. He drew numerous charges on the perimeter and caused many deflections. Beard continues to get in better shape every time I see him which is helping his game in every aspect; hard working kid. I talked to his father on Friday and he said SDSU has been keeping in contact.

Chris Sandifer – The lengthy lefty struggled on the opening night but bounced back showing why many high major schools, including SDSU, have him on their radar. Sandifer has high major upside due his bounce, length and scoring but his decision-making needs some tightening up, as he has never seen a shot he doesn't like.

Keep An Eye On

London Perrantes – More than likely the best point guard on the west coast was fantastic from the three or so games I watched of him including dominating Kansas commit Conner Frankamp in the Sunday morning game. Perrantes is a pass first guard who sees what the defense is going to do before they do it and certain things to create space for others. The 6-foot-0 prospect can get past his defender but needs to make shots consistency around the basket, range reaches out to three. Personally felt Perrantes deserved to be in the Top 30 game.

Elliot Pitts (Top 60) – Need someone who can light up the scoreboard? That would be Mr. Pitts. The 6-foot-5 wing can knockdown a shot from just about anywhere on the court, good form. Also can attack off the dribble with a lot of room for growth in his game. Pitts just received an offer from Arizona today.

Mamadou Ndiaye – The 7-foot-5 YouTube star only played in one game but was impressive in his short stint. He moves well for his size, doesn't seemed to get tired quickly and has smaller feet so less chance for future health concerns. Ndiaye has good hands and solid looking form from the free throw line. He finished with a couple blocks and some dunks that already hit the mixtape world.

*In parentheses is the All-Star game each player was selected to, there was only a Top 30 and Top 60 game.
