Santa Margarita (Calif.) defensive end Nick Begg became the fourth commitment for San Diego State on Friday afternoon.
"I just felt like San Diego was the right place so I decided to commit," Begg said. "I've been a fan since I was a little kid, it's a local team, really like the program, the coaches, coach [Kevin] McGarry. I just want to be an Aztec."
"I just felt like now was the right time for me," Begg said. "This could help me have my future. I can now focus on the season ahead of me. Focus on winning another state championship at Santa Margarita."
"SDSU stepped up and they are the only ones that stepped up. It's just the right opportunity and other schools didn't step up with an offer."
One of the major benefits with the Aztecs was that they are only a short drive away from his hometown so his parents are able to watch all of his home games and he's able to go home at his own disposal.
Yes, Begg will be attending the upcoming Arizona State camp but that's because he already booked the flight.
"Right now I'm just focused on the Aztecs," Begg said. "I'm not really sure what's going to happen. Right now I'm 100% committed."
The 6-foot-5 and 240-pound stud broke the news to coach McGarry Friday afternoon.
"He was really excited," Begg said. "He was on his way to work and said he couldn't wait to tell the other coaches about this."
As for what the SDSU coaches have in store for the latest Aztec?
"Right now it's probably at d-end," Begg said. "They'll redshirt me and get me to be like 275 by my sophomore year. Just keep me big and see how it goes. Get me at like 290 by my senior year, gear it up."
Begg is open to the opportunity of playing other positions such as offensive line or tight end.
"I'm willing to do whatever is best for the team so if they want to bulk me up to make me an o-lineman then so be it," Begg said. "I'm willing to play wherever. I just want to play."
What will two-star commit bring to the Aztecs on and off the field?
"I'm more of a balanced defensive end," Begg said. "I'm really quick so more like a speedy guy. I just like to shed the blocks and get his hands right off of me. That's what I work on with Riley Sorenson."
"I see myself bringing a good working ethic, attitude, good leadership. I'm definitely going to help lead the d-line like at Santa Margarita. Championship mentality."
After it's all said and done, Begg is just happy to play for the team he grew up rooting for.
"It's just ironic because I used to go to their games and I caught a glove after a game from one of the players and now I'm going to be one of those players," Begg said.
