Athlete Brandon Porter of John Curtis Christian in River Ridge (LA) took an unofficial visit to San Diego State this afternoon.
"I liked the campus," Porter said. "It was beautiful. Just walking around and seeing everything, I tried picturing myself being there by myself. Would I be comfortable? I felt that I was comfortable."
The 6-foot-0 and 200-pound prospect felt so comfortable that he committed to SDSU during the visit.
"I told coach [Tony] White that I would like to take him up on his offer," Porter said. "He gave me a big hug."
What about SDSU made the two-star target want to commit?
"I like the state itself, the school is nice, like the fact they look at me as a good player and they have a vision me on their team," Porter said.
That vision that Porter speaks of is playing the strong safety position in the Aztecs 3-3-5 defense.
"Pretty much treat me how they treat me at my high school right now as strong safety on defense," Porter said. "Where my team needs me at is where I'm willing to play."
Aztec fans are hoping that Porter becomes a culture changer, as that's what he feels he'll bring with him to the Mesa.
"Coming from a winning program I'll bring a will to win, handle what I do on defense, work hard everyday and win," Porter explained.
Porter becomes the ninth commit, sixth from out-of-state, for SDSU in the 2013 class. It will be an adjustment for him to move cross country but he sounds confident that it won't be a problem.
"It's something new and I know it will be hard for me to move so far away from home but it will be an experience for me," Porter said.
The Aztecs coaching staff now shifts their attention on landing Porter's teammate Duke Riley. Porter will try to help land the three-star linebacker.
As far as how committed Porter is to San Diego State?
"I made my commitment so I'll most likely stick out with it," Porter said.
Visit turns into commitment for Porter
