San Diego State offered point guard Wes Clark out of Romulus HS (Romulus, Mich.) last week after his fantastic month of July on the recruiting circuit.
Clark was a relatively unknown player until he blew up at the LeBron James Camp in Las Vegas last month.
"I felt like there was a huge opportunity at the LeBron James Camp," said Clark. "People didn't know how good I was, and I took advantage of it."
Clark's unexpected performance made his star rise at an extremely fast in the recruiting world.
"Everything's going great now," said Clark. "I've been hearing from Michigan State, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Illinois, UCLA, Kansas. There's been a lot schools talking to me."
In addition to SDSU, Clark claims recent offers from basketball powerhouses Connecticut and Missouri.
What does Clark feel his best qualities as a point guard are?
"I'm a leader," said Clark. "I find open men as much as I possibly can and just enjoy leading my team to a win."
Clark would like to find a school that fits his athleticism as a point guard.
"I feel like I fit into more of a fast, more spaced-out type of offense," said Clark.
In a fast-paced offense, Clark would look to be a facilitator for his teammates, but also score a few points himself.
"I can blow by defenders, which creates openness for other people," said Clark. "I can create open shots for a lot of people and create open shots for myself."
Clark feels that his biggest weakness is on the opposite side of the court.
"I need to work on defense," said Clark. "I want to get better at guarding pick-and-rolls and staying in front of men."
When it comes to choosing a school, Clark has one requirement.
"A place that fits me," said Clark. "I'm not actually looking for playing time right now, I'm just looking for a place where I can fit in and pick up the style of the play."
Clark has limited knowledge regarding the SDSU program, but he knows a little bit about it.
"I don't know that much about SDSU. All I know is that they've been winning," stated Clark.
Where does that place SDSU on Clark's list of schools?
"SDSU has my interest because they are in the tournament almost every year," said Clark. "No school is really above another team right now though."
Going into his senior year, Clark has one goal.
"I want to win the state championship next year," said Clark.
How will he help his team achieve his lofty goal?
"I will put my team in the best position to win every day," asserted Clark.
