Bakersfield (Calif.) Stockdale running back Deon Martin's high school football season is already underway with his first game only a week away.
"This season I have a lot to prove, a lot more to prove," Martin said. "I'm just going to take it one game at a time and do what god gave me. Stay humble about everything."
Martin will be looking to accomplish back-to-back-to-back 1,900+ rushing yard seasons.
The former California commit now stands at 5-foot-10 and 210 pounds with a prolific running style.
"Hard and aggressive," Martin explained. "I liked to be balanced a lot. Make moves on the dime. I have a lot of break away speed."
Since his fallout with the Golden Bears he's been talking to San Diego State, Arizona State and Oregon State the most. The Beavers and Sun Devils have offered while he doesn't think the Aztecs offer is "official."
"I'm really liking Arizona State right now just because it's closer to home," Martin said. "It's always sunny like in California because I don't like the rain that much like in Oregon State."
SDSU coaches Jeff Horton and Tony White are recruiting the three-down back.
"They seem really interested in me, say I have a good personality, good attitude about everything," Martin said. "They just want to continue to talk to me."
"All I know is that they [SDSU] have a great offense, great atmosphere to play at and I just like that a lot."
As of now it looks to be the the previously mentioned high major programs in the mix along with hometown Fresno State but Martin hasn't heard from the Bulldogs in awhile.
What visits does the three-star prospect have planned?
"I'm going to make a trip down to San Diego State probably next weekend because they wanted me to go down there and check everything out," said Martin. "Oregon State might have to do that later on, somewhere this season, find a good time for that. Arizona State, I'm going to have to talk to my parents about that one. I'm going to try and get a trip out there soon."
What will be the deciding factors for Martin when he makes his commitment?
"Home thing is an issue," Martin said. "I really want to be home, close to home. I just want to be in a good atmosphere. I don't want to be just an X or an O. I want to be another good person and player at the college I go to."
"I'm probably going to gather all my information up before I take the trips during this season and talk to my mom and parents about everything. Make my decision off that."
