Chicago (Ill.) Hales Franciscan defensive end Jordan Watson pledged to San Diego State during his official visit this past weekend.
"The visit was a really good visit," Jordan's father Will Watson said. "It's definitely a really good program down there. Hopefully by the time my son gets down there he'll be able to contribute."
"When I talked with all the staff they were really informative, really had the presentation, tour of the school, and answered all the questions we had with clear decisive information."
Hales Franciscan head coach Randall Townsel acknowledged that a ton of schools have called about Watson the past few weeks because they just found out about him due to his film.
That being said Watson does not plan to take any more visits. He was scheduled to visit Purdue, Florida Atlantic and already took a trip to Southern Illinois.
"He likes the West Coast area and has always wanted to go down South so it's a great fit," Will Watson said.
The Midwest prospect became the 18th commitment for the Aztecs.
"He could play any position from a three-tech to a wide-nine," Townsel said. "He's a different guy. He's 6-foot-5, 250, runs a 4.70-40 with a 33 inch vertical. He's just going to get better."
Coach Townsel thinks he's an ideal fit as a defensive end for a three-man front due to being "so big, strong and long" and has the ability to "take two gaps."
So what should Aztec fans be most excited about with Watson?
"Athleticism," Townsel replied. "He's big, strong and tons of upside. He still has baby fat so the minute he gets onto a college campus and abides by their regiment of eating great everyday, eating a lot, lifting weights and working out. He's just going to get better and better. He's a huge athlete because he can flat out run."
Both Watson and Hales Franciscan teammate Joe Morrow committed to SDSU during the official visit. Coach Townsel had just as many good things to say about Watson than he did with Morrow.
"He [Watson] has a good work ethic," Townsel said. "Has a motor on the field that he keeps revved up. Just a real humble guy, likes being around his teammates and he's starting to figure out how good he can be."
