It was on Super Bowl Sunday that San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln DE/OLB Fred Melifonwu decided to stay home for college by committing to San Diego State during his official visit.

"It was a good visit," Melifonwu said. "I liked it. I liked the school, the coaches, campus, and academics. I just liked everything about the school. It was a good visit."

While location wasn't a major factor for Melifonwu, his family loves the idea of being able to watch all of his home games.

The two-star pass rusher enjoyed his time by his host, fellow linebacker, Micah Seau.

"I just like that everyone is close like a brotherhood," Melifonwu said. "It's a very close team. They are an up and coming team, a lot of potential to be great."

How Rocky Long uses his defensive ends and outside linebackers in their 3-3-5 defense stood out to Melifonwu.

"The defense that they run is designed for their linebackers to get a lot of sacks," Melifonwu explained. "Linebackers are a key position of their defense and that's my position, outside linebacker; rushing the passer, drop back a couple times. It's a big role on their defense so it fits me perfectly."

SDSU wide receivers coach LeCharls McDaniel recruited the hometown talent over Washington, Washington State, Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, Colorado State, New Mexico, New Mexico State and San Jose State.

"I think I'm going to cause a lot of problems on defense," Melifonwu said of what he'll bring to SDSU. "I'm very physical, aggressive and fast. I'm long, tall and I can cover ground. As far as rushing the passer I'll cause havoc, being a monster because that's what I do."

Before heading to Montezuma Mesa the 6-foot-5, 215-pound specimen plans to gain weight without losing his electrifying speed.

Melifonwu is expected to sign on Wednesday.
