Phillips Looking to Start Right Away

Three-star Desoto (Tex.) center Sergio Phillips will be looking to compete for a starting spot right out of the gate...

"Line calls" and snapping the football.

Two things Sergio Phillips of Desoto (Tex.) has never done before. The prospect will travel west to San Diego State this fall to play center for the Aztecs.

"They (SDSU) want me to come in there and play center," Phillips said. "They actually want me to come in and start right away."

That being said the three-star prospect will spend most of the offseason preparing himself to compete for the starting spot.

"First of all I'm going to be working on the center position because I've never played center before," Phillips said. "So I'm going to work on playing center."

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound prospect has lost about 25 pounds since the beginning of the high school football season. He plans to pack on at least 20 pounds before he steps on the SDSU campus.

Phillips is ready to get his SDSU career underway by signing his National Letter of Intent.

"I'm really excited," Phillip said. "It's a feeling that you never get back."

Few weeks ago Phillips earned an offer from Nevada but did not show mutual interest in return.

He'll sign his NLI with SDSU at 7:00 a.m. PST at his high school.
