Two offers for Liuchan

Ricky Liuchan is looking to make a name for himself this summer.

Ricky Liuchan was part of a loaded Mission Hills defense last year that included Devin Holiday, Kiel Robinson and Fred Warner. This year, he's out to make a name for himself.

On the field, Liuchan shows great speed and routinely wraps up the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage from the outside and inside linebacker positions. While describing his style of play, Liuchan said, "I just like to hit." Liuchan will need to add weight before making the jump to college, and told me that his concentration this summer will be on improving his footwork.

The 6'2" 200 pound defensive standout has offers from San Diego State and Oregon State along with interest from UCLA, California and Washington. He has no favorites at this point and admitted, "I'm pretty open."

He took an unofficial visit to San Diego State a couple weeks ago for a spring practice, where the coaching staff extended him an offer. He enjoyed his time at practice, "It was nice to see that every one was challenged and organized. The offense and defense were doing well. They're all cool people." Liuchan wasn't able to get a campus tour, but he liked what he did see, "It's close to home. They have nice fields and facilities." With the Aztecs being the hometown school he's sure to visit again.

Last year's Mission Hills team lost to Eastlake in the San Diego Section D1 finals, 21-14. They return several keys pieces and have set a simple goal for this season, "Win the last game." At Mission Hills, Liuchan is used to playing a 4-3 defense but isn't worried about potentially playing for the Aztec's defense, "I've played a 3-3-5 before."

With lots of time left to showcase his skills, Liuchan doesn't know when he'll announce, "I'm not sure yet. Haven't made any deadlines, but that could change."
