Barefield Looks to Keep Improving

Sedrick Barefield has 5 offers, is looking to add more with a breakout summer.

After finishing his sophomore season at Corona (Calif.) Centennial, Sedrick Barefield was back in action this weekend suiting up for Compton Magic Select. Barefield showcased his all around skill set; setting up teammates, shooting from three point range and even driving baseline for a vicious dunk in the 2nd game on Saturday.

Following the morning session Barefield said, "I'm encouraged with what I saw today. Our team chemistry is getting better." With the live period opening next weekend, Barefield's Compton Magic Elite squad will head to Dallas to play in the Adidas VIP tournament. Barefield identified a few things he'd like to improve on during the spring and summer period, "Dribbling, try to keep it lower. Pull up game, not forcing it. My high school coach has me working on off-ball defense."

This past season his Centennial Huskies went 26-3, losing to Silverado in the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals. Barefield had himself an excellent season averaging 16 points and 5 assists per game while shooting 43% from deep.

Switching to the recruiting side, things have definitely picked up for Barefield. He has offers from San Diego State, Kansas State, Connecticut, Memphis and Boston College. "It's going pretty good, Michigan is coming on pretty strong," Barefield said.

With the news about Tony Bland leaving getting to recruits early in the week, Barefield was quick to respond to it, "I was shocked, I wasn't expecting it, but it is what it is." With Bland now at USC, "I hope recruits me there," Barefield added. Even though San Diego State hasn't announced who will be replacing Bland, Justin Hutson is expected to be coming over from UNLV to be the lead recruiter for the Aztecs. Barefield talked about Hutson's expected move to SDSU, "I know Justin. My dad has known him for a while, I talk to him a little bit, and he's really cool with me. I hope he recruits me over (to SDSU) just as hard.
