Walker Still High on the Aztecs

Cameron Walker still has the Aztecs high on his list despite the departure of Asst. Coach Tony Bland.

Santa Maria (Calif.) Righetti 2015 F Cameron Walker was the first prospect from the 2015 class to receive a scholarship offer from the San Diego State. Nearly a year later, the Aztecs still view Walker as a top priority. With a few more scholarship offers on the table, Walker still says the Aztecs are standing out in his recruitment, "I still like coach Fisher. I think he's a good guy and I like the fit. I like the city of San Diego."

Cameron's brother, Hunter, just finished up his freshman season as a guard on the UCSD basketball team, which has allowed Cameron to make several trips to San Diego and see what the city has to offer.

Walker will be playing with Compton Magic Select this summer with fellow 2015 Aztec targets Sedrick Barefield and Rex Pflueger. They'll get the open period started this weekend at the Adidas VIP Exclusive Run in Dallas. "We're playing up a year with the 17's this summer," Walker told me, "So I need to get stronger, more physical and keep guys in front of me."

Walker's dad convinced him to join the track and field team at Righetti this year to help with his speed and athleticism for basketball season. "I have the triple jump, the high jump, the 200x and the 4x100. I get better and better each week," Walker said, "It's making me faster."

With coaches heading out to sites all over the country this week for the beginning of the evaluation period, Walker has some things he wants to showcase. "I'm trying to show my ball handling skills and that I can bring the ball up the court," Walker said.

Earlier this week, Cameron's father Eric, reached out to new Aztec lead recruiter Justin Hutson to let him know that Tony Bland's departure will not effect the Aztec's recruitment of Cameron.
