2015 Shooting Guard Justin Simon of Corona (Calif.) Roosevelt may be an unknown as of now, but it won't remain that way for long. The 6'4" sophomore picked up an early offer from UC-Irvine and has heard from San Diego State, Penn State, Iowa and Cal so far.
He took a visit to San Diego State this past season to see the Aztecs take down cross-town rival USD, 72-56, and liked what the Aztecs have to offer. "I love the atmosphere, the fans and the talent. They make you feel at home there. I've been in the locker room and talked to all the players, it was pretty good."
He had been talking with Tony Bland but that shouldn't impact his interest in the Aztecs, "It sucks, but hopefully they'll keep their radar on me and maybe USC will pick up their radar on me too," Simon said.
Simon is playing with Gamepoint AAU this summer. The past two weeks they've played in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but this weekend they'll head east to play in the Jayhawk Invitational in Kansas. Simon knows that there is always room for improvement and he's got a list of things to work on. "I need to work on my jump shot and my on ball defense. I need to get more pressure instead of sagging off my defenders, try to get more deflections with my lanky-ness. I have a (big) wingspan and I need to use it to my advantage when I play defense," Simon told me.
Simon is likely at least a year and a half away from a decision, but he knows he'd like to make trips to UCLA and Washington this summer when he has time off of club ball.
