Fields is a fast target for the Aztecs

St. John Bosco Shay Fields hopes to collect more offers after showing coaches his speed and hands

Last years St. John Bosco football team began the season with huge expectations. They ended the season at 8-5 despite outscoring their opponents by 300 points because of an ineligible player that was used the first four games.

Nico Falah has departed, but they return several college prospects including wide receiver Shay Fields. He's up to four offers now, including one from San Diego State. He's liked what he's heard about the Aztecs when he's spoken with Coach McDaniel, " He said how they run their offense, what receivers are coming back and the passing plays they call."

Other than his contact with the coaches, he doesn't know a whole lot about San Diego State. "I don't know much, but I have a friend that goes there," Fields said, "I'd like to get down there for a visit."

Fields described his style of play as, "A fast quick guy with nice hands, who can make plays with the ball," and said his hands and speed are definitely his best assets. Fields added that he needs to work on his route recognition before he arrives on a college campus.

The high school season ended with a loss to eventual champion Long Beach Poly in the Pac 5 playoffs. Fields and his teammates are determined to change that result this year, "We need to get further than last year and win it all."

Fields doesn't have any favorites at this point in his recruitment, but admitted that he grew up as a fan of Hawaii and Michigan. No decision date has been made, nor is Fields sure of when he'd like to decide, "Before senior football, or I might take 4 or 5 official visits."
