JUCO PG updates on his past and future visits

PG Dre Mathieu (Arizona Central CC) talks about his planned official visits and what factors will determine where he lands

Although listed at only 5'9, Deandre Mathieu is still one of the most heralded JUCO guards in the country. Mathieu played as a walk on at Morehead State as a freshman in 2011, but transferred this past year to Arizona Central CC, where he averaged 17.1ppg and 6.5 apg.

Mathieu received a wide variety of offers including high major UCLA, but has since narrowed his list to five, Pepperdine, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Memphis, and San Diego State.

Mathieu recently returned from a an official to Ole Miss, and plans on officially visiting Minnesota on May 2nd and 3rd, then heading to Memphis on the 4th and 5th. On his recent trip to Mississippi, Mathieu mentioned, "I really enjoyed it, it was nice, but I'm also looking forward to my other visits." He has already taken an official to Pepperdine a couple weeks ago, but still plans on visiting SDSU with the next couple of weeks.

"I want to play somewhere with a good family environment where the play is up-tempo, and I'm allowed to make plays. I also want to play immediately; I do not want to go anywhere to sit on the bench." Said Mathieu on what factors will play a role in his decision.

It appears that recently hired asst. Justin Hutson was able to bring over a past UNLV recruit, as Mathieu mentioned "Coach Hutson was on me while he was at UNLV, but they signed a point guard so he had to stop. But now that he is at San Diego State he got another opportunity to recruit me."

I asked Mathieu what his stance was concerning the SDSU offer he received, "From what I've heard the gym and its environment in supposed to be amazing, and obviously playing for Coach Fish would be great, he coached the Fab 5. As well as the up-tempo style of play would really suit me."

Mathieu will be able to play immediately since he is transferring from a JUCO, but currently has no particular order or rankings for his final five, and expects to make his decision soon after visiting with all five schools.

As for his plans this summer Mathieu intends on being a constant in the weight room and gym, "I want to get stronger and also get my 3 point shot consistent".
