2014 Recruits: Quarterbacks and Running Backs

Which Quarterbacks and Running Backs are the Aztecs looking at for the 2014 recruiting class

Quarterback's: Brad Kaaya (West Hills, Chaminade HS)- He added an offer from the Aztecs in late April. The Aztecs would love to add Kaaya, but it certainly won't be easy. His only other offer is from Miami, and he visited Oklahoma State for their spring game a few weekends back. He operates out of a spread at Chaminade that enables him to air it out and show off his big arm.

Christian Chapman (Carlsbad HS)- The Aztecs offered him last week and are in very good position. His first offer was from Washington State, since then Arkansas State, BYU and SMU have jumped aboard. Some schools are a bit skeptical because of his smaller stature (6'1", 190). He runs several play action and bootleg plays for his high schools, which would suit him well for the Aztec's pro-style offense. He also works with famed quarterback coach George Whitfield, which is never a bad thing to have attached to your name.

Connor Wynn (San Marcos, Mission Hills HS)- He's the younger brother of former Oceanside HS and Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn, who is now the QB coach at Hawaii. He visited an Aztec's spring practice with a couple teammates from Mission Hills. He has yet to receive an offer, but definitely has the looks of a Division 1 quarterback. Wynn has a slight hitch in his delivery, but his accuracy cannot be questioned.

Running Backs:

William "PJ" Walker (Perris, Citrus Hill HS)- He committed to the Aztecs two weeks back, choosing them over Boise State. Walker visited both San Diego State and Boise State within a week of each other and decided that the Aztecs were the right fit based on the priority they had made him. Walker told me he was "for sure" about his commitment to the Aztecs when I talked to him just after committing and that looks like it hasn't changed. The Aztecs don't necessarily need to add another running back, but with the departure of Chad Young and possibility that Adam Muema could leave they could still be looking if they find the right player.

Demario Richard (Palmdale HS)- He has offers from the majority of the Pac-12 and more. The Aztecs are likely out of the picture on Richard, though they offered him earlier than several of the bigger names.

Royce Freeman (Imperial HS)- With offers from Florida, Stanford, Oregon, Tennessee and more the Aztecs are out of the picture. I haven't been able to confirm that he had an offer from the Aztecs, although he says he does. It doesn't matter at this point, Freeman is one of the top running backs nationally and has a very good chance to set the record for most rushing yards in San Diego County history.
