2014 View Park Prep linebacker Cameron Griffin decided to end his recruitment early on Monday night and verbally commit to San Diego State just two days after visiting for "Warrior" day.
"It was academics. That academics of the school were a big reason why I chose them," Griffin said.
The proximity of campus in relation to Griffin's home in Los Angeles was another big key. "It was a major part being able to come home whenever I want and my family can see me play whenever they want."
San Diego State hosted nearly 20 prospects from the 2014 class this past weekend and since then three of them have committed to the Aztecs. "The visit went good. I got to see other recruits. The coaches were letting us have our time and telling us about the school."
Griffin credits his experience playing rugby as a big reason for a lot of his linebacker skills like being aggressive and playing in the trenches.
SDSU's recruiting coordinator, Tony White, has been on a roll evaluating players and locking them up before other schools get the chance. Griffin's case is no different, as White played a huge role again. "I just like how he carries himself. He didn't force me to do anything. He let me make all my decisions by myself. He never told me I would start as a freshman or anything."
Griffin has a pretty good idea of his plan when he steps on San Diego State's campus in just over a year. "I think I would be better as a 5th year senior then I would as a true freshman. I think I'll probably take a redshirt year and then hopefully start my sophomore year."
He wasn't able to watch any film with the coaches during his visit this weekend, but Griffin has a good idea of why he'll fit with the Aztec's 3-3-5 defense.
"I've had a chance to watch their games on YouTube and I like how they use their linebackers with blitzing and covering. I think I'll fit in good."
With just under nine months until football's national signing day, Griffin looks to be set on his decision with the Aztecs.
"I don't plan on taking other visits to any other colleges," Griffin said. "I'll probably just take an official visit (to San Diego State)."
Griffin a perfect fit for the Aztecs
