Pittsburg HS cornerback Xavier Crawford has seen a rise in his recruitment the last few months, and now has had six schools extend scholarship offers to him with many others showing interest.

Crawford doesn't have a leader in his recruitment at this point, but said that San Diego State, San Jose State, Wyoming, and UTEP are recruiting him the hardest.

"Those schools have been hitting me up a lot."

Crawford has been to San Diego State a couple times, but an upcoming visit could be in the future, "I actually have a cousin that goes there, so I've visited her a few times but I wouldn't call that an unofficial. I'm gonna try and get there this summer."

"I like how the (SDSU) coaches are honest. They basically tell me how I'll fit in there. They don't want me to just come there and be there, but they have a plan they laid out for me when I would be there. Coach White and Coach Lewis just tell me about the plan they have laid out for me."

Crawford's Pirates finished with an 8-4 record last season, with a loss to De La Salle in the section playoffs. He's at the peak of his offseason right now, "I'm just trying to get ready for the season in spring ball. I'm working on my footwork, getting off the ball and working on my explosiveness."

"The mental part of my game is probably the strongest. I use my mental game more than my physical game. As a defensive back I try and bait the quarterback and lure him into doing something that he'll regret," Crawford said.

A commitment could come at any time because Crawford has zeroed in on what he's looking for. "First I'm looking for academics because if football doesn't work out I need to look at what weight the degree will carry around the country. I'd like to study business or sports medicine. Location is important, the atmosphere and how the team is. Are they close or are they separated.

"I'll decide when I come to a conclusion and talk with my parents. My decision could be before the start of senior season, but I don't have a set date as of yet."
