Like so many high school athletes who dream of playing sports in college, the day when you pick up your first scholarship offer is one to remember. For Joe Salcedo that came last week when San Diego State and Nevada both extended offers.
"San Diego State and Nevada both offered me, and I've talked to coaches from Utah and Washington State."
With spring football having ended recently for Salcedo, he now has time this summer to take some visits and see which schools he would be interested in. "I'm planning to visit (SDSU) in the next couple weeks, I've been to city before but never to the campus," Salcedo said. "I have a lot of camps scheduled too this summer."
"Spring football just ended, and we have weight lifting as a class every morning so I've been doing that. I have also been going to another trainer three times a week for the past couple months."
The offensive line in often known as a boring position to play, but Salcedo is enjoying it, "I really enjoy run blocking and hitting guys. That's where all the fun happens," Salcedo said. "I'm trying to gain some weight right now, I'd like to put on like 15 pounds before the season."
"When I've talked to (SDSU) they've told me about the program, the coaches seem really cool and they are really easy to talk to."
With his recruitment starting to pick up, Salcedo isn't looking to make an early decision. "I'll probably just see how everything plays out right now, I'm keeping my options open. It won't be anytime soon, if anything then right before the season," Salcedo said.
"When I pick a school it'll probably be a combo between location and playing time, but then also how good is the program and are they winning games," Salcedo told me. "I ‘d be open to redshirting because then I would get to graduate earlier and then start my masters degree."
Recruitment starts for Salcedo
