Aztecs spending time on Jones

San Diego State became the first school to offer Upland High School Athlete Elijah Jones back in May, and the Aztecs have really made an impression on him.

"Well they just had a corner drafted in the 2nd round, and they see me coming in and fitting that mold," Jones said.

Jones camped at UCLA and Stanford last week, and is currently up at Washington for their camp.

"I've been working out with my 7 on 7 coaches in the mornings, then doing extra lifting and running after that."

"My football IQ, I play fast and smart out there is the strongest part of my game," Jones said. "Upper body strength, that's my biggest weakness right now."

Jones told me that the Aztecs are recruiting him the hardest of any school. "I've been down (to SDSU) a few times, but next month I'm supposed to go down there for an unofficial visit."

What does it mean to Jones that the Aztecs were the first to offer him a scholarship?

"That's big, I'm gonna pay that back to them. I'm probably gonna give them one of my official visits."

Even though Jones will plays both sides of the ball for the Highlanders, after transferring from Damien High School, all of the schools recruiting him view him as a cornerback at the college level.

Early playing time, location, academics, and the relationship with the coaches will all play an important role when Jones picks a school. "I was thinking about getting it over with before my senior year, I'll probably do it around this time next year."
