While playing for Valley Christian High School in Chandler, Arizona, T.J. Widner is forced to play the quarterback position. His future in college looks to be at the tight end position.

"That's mainly the reason I've been going to a lot of camps so they can see me at a different position," Widner said.

Widner recently checked out SDSU and is planning to return in the near future. "I was up there for a camp a couple weeks ago. They told me about how they're only gonna offer one tight end this year."

"I'm headed out there on the 17th of July for an unofficial, it possibly could lead to an official visit later in the year."

Not being able to play tight end for his high school is something that Widner is not letting effect his skill development.

"The biggest thing is specific tight end skills; I don't play that position so I need to put in time on my own," Widner told me. "People have told me because of my size, I move well, with good feet and good athleticism. Coaches have told me that's what has caught their eye."

San Diego State is not alone in showing interest in Widner. He's been contacted by coaches from Arizona, Arizona State, Montana, New Mexico State to mention a few.

"I think a big thing I'm looking for is location. That's been on the top of my list for a while; I'm close to my family so I don't want to get too far away. The quality of academics are also a big thing," Widner said.

As for when he'll make a decision, Widner has a pretty good idea of when that'll happen.

"I think it's something that'll definitely happen during the school year. If it's a school I don't have any doubts about, then I won't hesitate pulling the trigger."
