Trey Kell dominates at Pump Best of Summer

2014 G Trey Kell (SDA Pump N Run/St. Augustine HS) has emerged as one of the top guards on the West Coast, with a flurry of new scholarship offers being a result of his great play. This past week, Kell lead his team to win the championship of the Double Pump Best of the Summer event in Anahiem, Ca. In his first game on Saturday, Kell dropped 19 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds in a win against QJZ Elite and top 2016 G Lonzo Ball, as well as his brother 2017 G LiAngelo Ball. Later that day Kell went on to score an easy 20 points in a 64-54 victory over Louisiana Future.

This entire event San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher was courtside for every one of Kell's games. Other coaches who attended games included head coaches from Washington, USD, LMU, and assistants from UC-Irvine, Colorado, Washington State, Oregon, Utah State, New Mexico, USC, UCLA, among many others.

Throughout the event, Kell picked up offers from USC, Loyola Marymount, Vanderbilt, Denver, and Virginia. I asked Kell what he felt about all these new interests and offers coming in, "With Georgetown showing interest, that was huge. Having grown up watching them, and being such a great academic school, and offer would really mean a lot. Vanderbilt is in the SEC, playing against Florida and Kentucky is appealing. With LMU they are telling me I can come in and become a very big time player for them. Both of those schools I'm very interested in."

After watching Kell throughout this past year, it's obvious how hard he has been working this summer; his skills have improved a ton, with his midrange jumper becoming automatic. When asked about his offseason work ethic, Kell said, "Right now I'm just trying to work on everything, especially my shooting and helping my bigs out. After this summer I plan on really working on getting stronger, I know that's something I will need when I get to college."

Kell plans on beginning to start narrowing down his list of potential schools sometime in September, then eventually making his decision during his senior year, before his senior season begins. It's certain Kell will continue to collect scholarship offers from more and more power conference schools, with many D-1 coaches seeing Kell as a future pro.
