SJSU Brings in SoCal Commitment

A Southern California standout has made his decision and will attend San Jose State. Inside Sparta spoke on Wednesday evening with the latest Spartans' commitment of the 2012 recruiting year.

Jordan Thiel of Simi Valley (Calif) High School was at Spartan Stadium to witness San Jose State post its first victory over a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent since head coach Mike MacIntyre took the reigns. After thinking about it for a couple of days he decided he had found a home.

"I talked to Coach MacIntyre tonight and committed to San Jose State," Thiel said. "It just felt right. I really loved the campus and the staff and I'm looking forward to playing there."

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Thiel said he was being recruited to play tight end, and also had an offer from Sacramento State. His father recently told that an offer from San Diego State was expected shortly.

"I'm pretty solid," he said. "I like that my freshman year there will be four seniors ahead of me so I'll redshirt my freshman year. Then I'll be ready to compete for starting time."

The SoCal star has this to say about himself.

"Due to my size, I offer a tremendous amount of versatility," reads his bio. "I have soft hands that enable me to make great catches even while getting hit. I am able to move around as needed based on our competition."

Thiel lists a 4.7 time in the 40-yard-dash vertical leap of 27-inches. With a grade-point-average of 2.9 he is fully qualified, and said he would like to major in history. Academic accolades include a Scholar Athlete Award, Honor Roll, and being a Member of The National Honor Society.

Two games into the 2012 season, the Pioneers are undefeated and unscored upon, with wins over Newbury Parl and Aoura. Friday will be a huge test as they face Nationally ranked St. Bonaventure on the road. Thiel is averaging 13.4 yards-per-catch this season.

For the 2010 season he had 25 receptions with seven touchdowns and was Honorable Mention All-Marmonte League.
