San Jose State Leads for SoCal LB/QB

When one has the gift of athletic ability the options available can be many, not only in colleges willing to offer a scholarship, but in the position to be played. For Christian Tago of Highland High School in Palmdale, Calif., the options are on both sides of the ball. Inside Sparta spoke Wednesday with Tago to find out if he's coming north for school.

With offers reportedly from San Diego State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Davis, and San Jose State, athlete Christian Tago of Highland High School in Palmdale, Calif., has his pick of destinations for college. However, one school does stand above the rest.

"San Jose State is my favorite right now," he said. "They're recruiting me as a quarterback and I really like the gun offense they run."

The 6-foot-0, 219-pound Tsgo said he's in contact with his recruiter, SJSU defensive backs coach Andy LaRussa, on a weekly basis and said he has schedule his official visit for Dec. 10. He added he doesn't have any other official visits set at this time.

"Of all the schools that are recruiting me, San Jose State gives me the best opportunity at quarterback," Tago said. "I visit them in the summer and liked it a lot."

While the Spartans are now at the top of his list, the three-star standout isn't quite ready to pull the trigger.

"I'm waiting for an offer from a Pac-12 school," he said. "I really don't care which one, and I don't have a problem with going away from home."

Tago is averaging just under 200 yards-per-game in passing with 13 touchdowns, he's also a major force on defense.

"I play middle linebacker on defense," he said. "Most of the Pac 12 schools are recruiting me for defense." Tago is averaging right around nine tackles per game.

Tago added that he would like to major in Criminal Justice.

Highland is 4-1 on the year and kicked off the season with a 42-35 victory over Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, Calif. If that name sounds familiar to Spartans fans, it's the school of current SJSU commitment Kyle Hart.
