The San Jose State athletic department is out of compliance with Title IX regulations stipulating the proper distribution of opportunities for men and women to participate in NCAA athletics. Inside Sparta spoke last month with associate athletic director Liz Jarnigan about plans for the department to come into compliance. Women's lacrosse and track and field were the top two choices with other options being considered.
The committee that oversees the Roster Management Plan met recently and it appears they will choose between their top two choices.
"We are carefully considering the addition of
women's lacrosse or track and field," Jarnigan said in an email to Inside Sparta. "We are all pouring through participation rate data, conference sponsorship information, etc., in order to finalize our recommendation to the AD
at our Dec. 14 meeting."
