San Jose State Lands an Offensive Lineman

The San Jose State football team added an offensive lineman to their list of verbal commitments. Oscar Barron of Buena Park (Calif) High School made his pledge this weekend during his official visit. He becomes the fifth prospect to commit to the Spartans for the 2012 recruiting year. He spoke with Inside Sparta about what impressed him most.

San Jose State head coach Mike MacIntyre speaks often about his team being a family. That spirit was evident to offensive lineman Oscar Barron of Buena Park (Calif) High School, and one of the main reasons the talented big man made his pledge to become a member of the Spartans family during his official visit this weekend.

"Yes, I did commit," Barron told Inside Sparta on Sunday, after returning from visit. "I could see how the players though of each other as brothers. It's like that with my team now and really impressed me."

The 6-foot-4, 268-pound Barron is being recruited by SJSU assistant coach Kirk Doll. During the visit Barron said he was hosted by junior running back Ray Rodriguez.

"I really liked the campus and the facilities," he said. "My host drove me around the city and I hadn't heard much of San Jose, but when I got there it was really exciting. It was better than I expected."

Barron made the trek to Northern California with his teammate and fellow lineman Josh Tupou. Along with tours of the campus and city, they had a dinner at P.F. Changs in downtown San Jose.

Barron also sports an offer from Alabama State, but said his recruiting is done.

"I'm going to San Jose State," he said. "I'll start school in the summer."

He added that his parents were excited for him and that they allowed him to make up his own mind. When Inside Sparta spoke with Barron earlier in the week he mentioned that San Jose was close enough for him to go home when he wanted, yet far enough so he could live his own life.

Barron is the fifth verbal commitment for San Jose State for this recruiting class.
