RB Michael Pierre Talks SJSU Visit and Timing

Running back Michael Pierre was in San Jose over the weekend taking his official visit to SJSU. Once again a prospect with little knowledge of 7th and Alma came away with a glowing report. Inside Sparta spoke with Pierre after his visit.

At first it appeared that the Pierre brothers out of Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif., were a combo pack. Running back Michael Pierre told Inside Sparta that if a school offered his brother, he would commit on the spot. Both brothers were scheduled to visit San Jose State this past weekend, but only Michael was able to make the trip.

"I have some things to get straightened out with my medical redshirt before I can even take visits," Ronald Pierre said on Sunday night.

As has been the case with other visitors to the Spartans campus, Michael had very little knowledge to gauge both the school and the city. As has also been the case with such prospects, he came away wowed.

"It was cool, a big town and the school was really nice," he said. "The weather was great, the coaches and the people were cool, everything was great. I'd say they're now on top. I liked San Jose a lot."

Pierre said his host was sophomore wide receiver Chandler Jones.

He added that the coaches didn't push him to commit, that they told him to go home and take his time to think about things and that they'd be down to visit him soon.

It was the first official visit for Pierre. While he reports an offer from Cal and said earlier he had visited Berkeley, he clarified his visit history.

"I never went to Cal," he said. "I have an offer from Cal but I haven't heard from them in a while."

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Pierre also has an offer from New Mexico State, and several other schools are recently showing interest.

"Nevada and Texas Tech are contacting me a lot," he said. "Nevada is coming down to see me on Thursday or Friday, and Texas Tech is coming the week after. Neither of them have offered yet though."

Pierre said that San Jose State and Texas Tech were now recruiting him the hardest. As far as a timeline for his decision, it will be soon.

"I've been told that I need to make a decision either by December 21 or January 15," he said. "Either way I'm going to wait until the last day."

According to the NCAA website the initial Signing Date for mid-year junior college transfers is Dec. 21, 2011, with the Final Signing Date on Jan. 15, 2012.
